A number of the shops in Melbourne Grove are vacant or have been converted for other uses. This development will bring new footfall and custom to the existing local retailers, and it is expected to contribute to the reinvigoration of Melbourne Grove. Increasing the number of people who use these shops will mean more money is spent in the local economy.

In line with the Council’s policy that the site should relocate the existing industrial operations, about 1,220m² of light industrial and affordable workspace will be reprovided as part of the scheme. The development is expected to create more local jobs than are currently provided on the site. The workspace will be accessed through the Railway Rise entrance. It will be positioned along the railway line to enhance the relationship between the site and the platform. Extra trees will be planted to improve the ambience for passengers using the railway.
